My only issues with the old 2K dunk contest were its setting and lack of customization.
It was a mode that I loved going back and playing over and over again. It seemed very similar to the Live one posted, at least you had to use the sticks in certain directions (that made some sense) and time when to slam it. I actually liked the dunk contest that was in place in 2k10. Like looking back at certain aspects of NFL 2K5, it's kind of crazy how right NBA Live seemed to get the dunk contest in 2005:

I'd read about how to perform certain slams but I wouldn't exactly know what kind of dunk I was learning because the names were all so zany. One of them was the mystery behind each dunk instruction. As I said before, I thought their previous contest was solid but still had some quirks. Then, the moment they make the move, 2K completely butchers the gameplay mechanic, rendering the contest virtually useless. Again, as a huge dunk enthusiast, it was my request for years that 2K's solid dunk contest be moved into an authentic arena setting and made available during All-Star Weekend. It's like they hired Darryl Dawkins to name all the dunks and you had no idea what was what in the help screen where they had the controls for each dunk.

I loved the PC version because I would always replaced the blacktop with the actual all-star arena venue and it was so much fun.Īnother problem with the dunk contest was the name of the dunks.
The blacktop stuff ruined the dunk contest.
